Unique Character Move sets? What''s that? #Tekken 4 review series# I love you man but why?Īs a guy who played it heavily, it's the most weird feeling Tekken game out of the bunch. The movement in general tries to borrow things from Soul Calibur 2 (namely the smooth sidestepping) but it doesn't quite feel right, especially if you got to play both SC2 and TTT1 at the time. Other weird design choices like the uneven stages, the way walls worked, the way juggles worked thanks to the uneven stages and how gravity in juggles were in that game, and so on. The throw changes were pretty weird too, in that 1+3 instead worked like a weird wrestling game grapple where you can push or change position, and 2+4 were your normal throws barring the proper command throws. Never mind the character balance with how Jin was crazy strong compared to everyone, with Steve and Bryan at least not being far behind as far as I know. The worst thing it had against other Tekken games is that it was rather barren compared to its predecessors. Small-ass roster compared to other games (yo where the heck was Jack, for starters? And the bonus characters were just model swaps for Christie in Eddy and Miharu in Xiaoyu), kinda limited modes (at least you still had Tekken Force), and a general shift in tone that didn't quite work as intended (coming from Tag and 3, this game was more down-to-earth and a bit more serious. Very polarizing entry with all those factors. Personally I actually kinda like the game and put it in the same category of Jank I like along with SVC Chaos, Soul Calibur 3 Arcade (which I think is better than T4), and some others. Despite him being probably broken strong, Hoodie Jin is my favorite character in that game, besides Bryan and Marduk. You could also count Ponytail Blue Suit/White Pants King there too.Fighting games. A genre that just never goes out of style. Over the years I’ve covered a number of classic brawler titles. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, and of course, Tekken. It’s been well over a year since I posted my review for Tekken 3 (a game that actually earned a perfect score from me). Even though I took a break from the franchise to focus on other titles, I’ve been extremely excited to finally get my hands on the next chapter in the series.Īs was the case with the previous game, Tekken 4 is a title that I never had the chance to play when it first came out. If you’re like me, and you’ve decided to sink your teeth into this game for the first time, there’s something you should know right up front. You’re going to need an actual Playstation 2. As a result of Scenario Campaign mode being removed, it also made Alisa and Lars playable for Arena Mode, and gave them their own ending sequences. That’s right, Tekken 4 was a PS2 exclusive and at the time of this writing, it’s never been released digitally on any other platform. This version lacked the Scenario Campaign mode, some "Customization" options, "Achievements" & "Trophies", all the characters' "special outfits" and the "Stage Select" features. The game was ported to the PSP and released on Novemin the US, on Decemin the EU, and on Januin Japan. This was the first time a PlayStation port of a Tekken title was first released for the United States. When the game was ported to the PlayStation 3 for the US on October 27, 2009, it added a new mode called Scenario Campaign. In 2008, this game received an update, named Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion it introduced two more new characters ( Alisa Bosconovitch and Lars Alexandersson), along with a gold version of Azazel, and six new stages. There are also two new bosses ( Azazel and Nancy-MI847J). Players use an 8-way joystick and four buttons (two for left and right punches, and two for left and right kicks), to take control of two of thirty-nine fighters. It was the first game to run upon the company's System 357 hardware and is the eighth title in the Tekken series. Tekken 6 is a one-on-one fighting arcade game that was released by Namco on November 26, 2007.
